Fertilizers Europe has recently issued a press release warning once again that the rapid increase in natural gas prices has caused the reduction or closure of most European fertilizer manufacturers. With a cost of natural gas between 8 and 10 times higher in our region compared to the United States, and even higher compared to other fertilizer-producing countries, European manufacturers cannot compete in the domestic or global market. As a result, European production capacity has been reduced by more than 70 percent.

For this reason, FE urges the European Union to establish urgent and decisive measures to face this crisis, which will allow the reestablishment of European fertilizer production. It is essential that agriculture in the European Union be self-sufficient in the supply of fertilizers in order to ensure our long-term food security.
